Leading supplier of ingredients and ready-to-eat products, Beacon Foods has added two 26 ton refrigerated lorries to its fleet which provides a daily delivery service to customers across the mainland UK.
The MAN TGS lorries from the MAN dealership in Eardisley, near Hereford, have liveried, dual and single temperature rigid bodies supplied by Gray & Adams in Doncaster and tracking, temperature and door monitors and driver aid cameras supplied by Red Line Technology, Hereford.
“These new additions to our temperature-controlled fleet, which ranges from a 3.5 ton LGV van up to 44 ton articulated lorry, will ensure that we maintain our product delivery service to customers in all parts of the UK seven days a week,” said Simon Morgan, Beacon Foods’ supply chain manager.
“We now make 95% of the deliveries with our own fleet of vehicles and we travel to most parts of Wales, England and Scotland, which is all part of the personal customer service provided by the company.”
The new lorries have a 12 speed auto gearbox and a nine tonne front axle. “The MAN TGS is renowned within the industry for its reliability, fuel economy and exemplary dealer back up service,” said Stuart Beamand, account manager for MAN Truck & Bus UK, who has supplied three previous lorries to Beacon Foods.
Ryan Mazgaj, Gray & Adams sales manager, said one of the new lorries has a refrigerated, dual temperature body which enables Beacon Foods to transport frozen, chilled and ambient products together.
The second one has a refrigerated, single temperature body and both are fitted with camera systems. They are the fifth refrigerated bodies provided to Beacon Foods by Gray & Adams in the past three years.
Edward James, managing director of Red Line Technology, provides tracking technology for Beacon Foods’ fleet of delivery vehicles, so that the company knows exactly where they are to aid customer service.
“The monitors that we install enable drivers to ensure that products stay within the temperature parameters between the factory and the delivery, while we can also see when the doors have been opened,” explained Edward, who has provided technology support to Beacon Foods for 25 years.
Beacon Foods is seeing major sale growth for its wide range of ingredients which go into literally thousands of products, including sandwiches, ready meals, pizzas, soups, drinks and desserts.
These products can be found on supermarket shelves and with airlines, restaurant chains and coffee shops.
Continuing investment in state-of-the-art machinery allows Beacon Foods to offer UK produced, bespoke recipes of ready to eat IQF (individual quick frozen) char grilled and roasted vegetables which are proving extremely popular with customers.
Established in 1993, the company is the UK’s leading specialist producer of garlic, ginger and chili puree, roasted and char grilled vegetables and fruit ranges, relishes, chutneys, sauces and fruit compotes.
