Leading British ingredients specialist Beacon Food has invested £45,000
in a new energy efficient, bespoke blast freezer and chiller to capture
the freshness of its wide range of products.
The new facility enables the Brecon-based company, which supplies food
manufacturers and the food service industry, to blast chill and also
freeze three tonnes of ingredients from 12 degrees to minus 21 degrees
in 12 hours.
Beacon Foods' managing director Edward Gough said: "A feature of the
new facility is its energy efficiency due to the type of compressors
used in the installation."
The 4.5 metre square facility has been built onto the company's modern
food processing plant by isd coldstores of Gloucester. The huge
42-kilowatt refrigeration units, which use Copeland discus compressors
and R404A refrigerant, were designed and installed by P R Cooling
Services of Hereford. |

A growing number of food manufacturers are opting for healthy, fresh
fruit and vegetables from leading British ingredients specialist Beacon
Foods as consumer concern rises about artificial food colours and
additives.
Food manufacturers are being encouraged by the Food Standards Agency
(FSA) to make changes after research revealed that mixes of certain
artificial food colours with the preservative sodium benzoate could be
linked to hyperactivity in children.
The FSA has met with the UK food industry to discuss the research
findings and its implications. Representatives from manufacturing and
retail organisations told the agency that there was already a trend
within industry towards finding alternatives to the colours used in the
study, although there were technical challenges.
Edward Gough, managing director of Brecon-based Beacon Foods, believes
the company is well placed to meet the growing demand for fresh and
healthy ingredients, which are free from artificial colours and packed
with flavour. |

developing a range of multi-functional tomato sauces for pizza bases,
pasta and dips.
Guided by top food consultant Nellie Nichols, the Brecon-based company
is focusing on herb infused sauces that deliver an intense but fresh
